A 14-year-old boy was found dead just days after being falsely blamed of taking the cremated remains of a deceased infant during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

The young boy's mother and father found his body in his room at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

False Accusations Begin

The inquest heard how his parent got a message on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a woman asking if her son was her child. The message added: "Tell him appreciation for breaking into my apartment."

In a testimony read to the proceedings, the mother said the woman had been in the news, asserting her infant's ashes had been taken in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.

Police Inquiry

An investigation report from police later determined the supposed break-in victim had "provided false information" and "it now appears that said property was never stolen in the beginning".

News coverage about the alleged stolen remains generated social media responses, and although Kai was not identified in the posts, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were extremely distressing", she said.

Emotional Wellbeing Effect

She explained that her son had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views really mattered to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

Kai was arrested at home, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in touch, the inquest heard, but had not contacted the family by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Worry

His parent said her son "became isolated" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she talked to him about the supposed incident, she said her son told her he had gone into the house because the resident who lived there had said he could utilize the toilet whenever he wanted, but refuted removing anything.

Online Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being bullied online after the allegations.

The inquest learned that one young adult encouraged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had heard him "chuckling and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is totally devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "think bad of him".

School Response

The inquest received testimony from school personnel at Connah's Quay High School.

On November 8th, she "overheard some boys talking that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I learned".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the conversation, the educator said she called Kai's family landline and provided a voicemail saying she had communicated to the student about the allegations.

The court learned his family said they did not receive that communication.

Formal Conclusion

Senior coroner told the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling suspects with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent deaths report.

Delivering a descriptive conclusion, he stated: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against the teenager, a young child.

"Probably falsehoods were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.

"On November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and after his questioning he was freed while investigations continued."

The official concluded: "Exists no evidence that the actions or omissions of any organization led to or contributed to his death and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to determine his intent."
